Presented at CCAI / Commissioned by Museo Casa Natal de Jovellanos
The Frame and its Double is an inquiry into the collection of the Museo Casa Natal de Jovellanos under a curatorial slogan that expressly renounces to a linear narrative and to the use of a solid starting thesis. It is a museographic essay in which the praxis becomes the thesis: a perspective that keeps in mind -in a veiled way- a part of the history and singular circumstances of the city of Gijón, while offering a vague and heterodox reflection on the perception and reading of the image over time, including the digital period in which we are immersed.
The Frame and its Double does not ignore the context of creation, the subject matter, the style or the formal resolution, but it uses them as a diffuse background, alien to a narrative ordered chronologically or guided by an academic analysis of whatever sign it may be. On the contrary, the narrative of The frame and its Double is presented as a succession of sequences, which correspond to each of the wall panels that make up the exhibition space and which link the works by affinity and also by contrast. Based on the observation and analysis of the image and its dissemination, this reading of the collection proposes the use of mass media -from the traditional newspaper to social networks- as a graphic and scenographic strategy that allows us to offer visual micro-essays on the reframing of the works in the context of the digital hatching. The placement of the pieces in the space activates diverse optical effects that generate a thread of concatenations exposed to the free interpretation of the spectator. |
