Presented at CCAI / Commissioned by
MUSEO CASA NATAL DE JOVELLANOS, GIJÓN

Picture
The Frame and Its Double explores the collection at the Museo Casa Natal de Jovellanos through a curatorial approach that deliberately avoids a linear narrative. It is a museographic essay where the practice acts as the thesis: a perspective that subtly considers part of Gijón's history and unique circumstances, while offering a vague and unconventional reflection on how images are perceived and interpreted over time, including in the digital age we live in.

The Frame and its Double
does not ignore the context of creation, the subject matter, the style, or the formal resolution, but uses them as a diffuse background, disconnected from a narrative arranged chronologically or guided by an academic analysis of any sign it may be. On the contrary, the narrative of The Frame and Its Double is presented as a series of sequences, each corresponding to one of the wall panels that comprise the exhibition space, linking the works through resemblance and contrast.

Based on the observation and analysis of the image and its dissemination, this interpretation of the collection suggests using mass media—ranging from traditional newspapers to social networks—as a graphic and scenographic strategy. This approach enables us to present visual micro-essays on the reframing of the works within the context of digital emergence. The placement of the pieces in space activates various optical effects that create a sequence of connections, open to the viewer's free interpretation.
